The conspirators are not stopping, said Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, advisor to the interim government’s Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Youth and Sports. He said, “Whoever or whoever is involved in this conspiracy to fail us, will not be given an inch of concession.”
The advisor visited the site of the fire at Building No. 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday. Due to the fire, he postponed his North Bengal program and returned to Dhaka in the morning. This information was given in a press release of the Ministry of Local Government.
The press release said that regarding the fire incident, the advisor said that they were working on the money laundering and corruption that had occurred in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in the past. Evidence of looting of several thousand crores of taka was also found.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire is not yet known, the press release said. It said that the advisor has ordered the formation of a ministry-based investigation committee to assess the damage and find out the cause of the fire.
According to the Fire Service, they received the news of the fire at 1:52 am on Wednesday. Fire Service members reached the scene at 1:54 am. Initially, eight units of the Fire Service worked to control the fire. Later, the number of units was increased. Finally, 19 units of the Fire Service were working to control the fire. The fire was brought under control at 8:05 am today. And the fire was completely extinguished by the Fire Service members at 12:15 pm. According to the information provided on the website of the Cabinet Division, Building No. 7 of the Secretariat houses the Ministry of Youth and Sports; Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives; Ministry of Labour and Employment; Ministry of Finance; and various departments of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
